Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients

  • All-Purpose Flour: 2 cup(s)
  • Baking Powder: 1 tablespoon(s)
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon(s)
  • Baking Soda: 1/4 teaspoon(s)
  • Solid Shortening: 5 tablespoon(s)
    • crisco butter flavored is best.
  • Buttermilk: 1 cup(s)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Make sure oven preheats for at least 15 minutes before baking.
  2. Sift all dry ingredients into bowl (not absolutely necessary).
  3. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add buttermilk all at once.
  5. Stir until dough follows fork around the bowl. Do not over mix!
  6. Turn dough out on lightly floured surface, rolling out dough to about 3/4 to 1 inch think.
  7. Cut out dough into circles with either a glass or biscuit cutter (typically can yield about 8 biscuits).
  8. Bake on uncreased cookie sheet or baking pan for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
